Doors...and lollipops!

Most girls grow up dreaming of their wedding dress, I grew up dreaming of my front door. I'm a self confessed door-oholic.

For Toby a door is a door. It has hinges, it opens, it closes, it locks (preferably with a five point locking system...for safety's sake). For me it is a world of choices and excitement. The colour, the panels, the knocker, the letterbox, the handle, the glass, the frame, the window film and don't even get me started on the font for the house number. But if there's one thing I do know, it's that I loathe U-PVC with the fiery passion of a thousand suns.

I'm embarrassed to say that before we bought our house I told the estate agent that we didn't want to go to see it largely based on the look of the front door. I'm now hugely grateful to the estate agent who persuaded us to view it as it's now our very happy home. Having said that the U-PVC door with it's green flower motif and brass square handle still makes me wince.

This is the vision...

ahh, so pretty!

An entrance with such grandeur is only in my dreams, ours is more...understated. However, the blue goes so well with the green of the bay trees and the door furniture is sturdy and lived in. Something tells me that Anglian who sold at us rather than to us the other day are not going to provide me with the lived in look I'm so desperate for and I'm certainly not letting them anywhere near my frosted window. I have come to the conclusion that in order to get the door of my dreams it will have to be tailor made. I can already see Toby reading the price list before he's even looked at a single door...I'm just going to have to wait...for a very long time.

All is not lost though because much to my delight Toby's Step-Mum and Dad have kindly bought us two lollipop bay trees for a moving in present! Happy happy days!

I am a bit concerned because apparently they're so valuable that people steal them. This calls for a trip to buy some chain to fix them to the house or the driveway at the very least. I definitely putting fairly lights on them at Christmas.
